Lots to See and Do in Exeter

If you’re looking to visit great places in Pennsylvania, Exeter Township should be at the top of your list. Here’s why….

Convenient and Accessible
We’re a simple 60-minute drive from Philadelphia and just two and a half hours from New York. And we’re easily accessible via Rt. 422 – one of the best major access roads in the region.  Want to spend the night? Stay in a nearby DoubleTree by Hilton, Courtyard by Marriott or in one of Reading’s architecturally beautiful Bed and Breakfasts.

A Wealth of Historic Places
Exeter is in the heart of Berks County, which calls itself Pennsylvania’s Americana Region. The county has a wealth of historic sites, and those in Exeter Township are among the best.  They include the John Bishop House, a beautiful example of Georgian architecture, and the Mordecai Lincoln House, home of Abraham Lincoln’s great-great grandfather.  Most notable is the Daniel Boone Homestead, birthplace of the famous American frontiersman. The largest site owned by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, the homestead is open year-round. It schedules many family-friendly events throughout the year and has knowledgeable staff who interpret the lives of Boone and his family.

Beautiful Outdoor Parks Along the Schuylkill River
Exeter has the green rolling hills Berks County is known for.  Our municipal parks include large areas like Trout Run, which offers playing fields and a pavilion that can be reserved for family events.  Lorane Hollow Park features tennis courts, a basketball court, a pavilion and a half mile perimeter walking trail.

The Schuylkill River flows by five of our municipal parks, providing a nice view from our scenic walking trails.  Several areas are popular kayak launch sites. Speaking of kayaks, an annual event is The Schuylkill River Sojourn, a 112-mile guided canoe/kayak trip that begins in Schuylkill County, passes through Exeter and concludes in Philadelphia.

Wineries!
Exeter boasts a great winery and another one is coming soon. The family-owned Pagoda Hill Vineyard, which is nearly two decades old, is part of The Berks County Wine Trail, a group of local wineries that promote wine making and enjoyment.  The group hosts four events throughout the year for wine lovers, including a Chocolate & Wine Pairing Weekend around Valentine’s Day.  Whether you want to learn more about wine making, or just enjoy sipping in a relaxed setting, consider visiting Pagoda Hill and the wine trail.

Family Activities Open to Public
If you check our Facebook Page, you can time your visit to the many events the township hosts for families and organizations at its public spaces.  The Reading Country Club has hosted car and motorcycle shows, (co-hosted by the Exeter Fire Company) and our parks – all beautifully maintained and open to the public - are ideal places for fun runs, holiday events for children, movie nights under the stars, to name just a few.

We hope to see you soon!
